Camping
- Are there also separate showers for families and/or the disabled?
Yes, they are located in the sanitary building. For this you need a special key, you can ask at the reception. You pay €10,00 deposit for this, this amount you will get back when you return the key!
- Are there special camper spots?
There are no special camper spots at our campground. On all pitches, campers are welcome, provided the size fits on that spot. For very large campers, spots G101 to G103a are most suitable.
- Can I change anything about my booking (persons, shower cards, Wi-Fi)?
Changing something in your booking can be done either by phone, email or through my account.
- Can I spend the night in your parking lot with an camper?
Unfortunately, you are not allowed to spend the night in the parking lot with your camper. You will need to book a pitch at the campsite.
- How big is my camping spot?
Our camping sites are about 10 by 10 meters in size. A camping device up to 7 meters is allowed. If your camping equipment is larger, please contact the reception and together we can discuss the possibilities.
- How does it work with the shower cards?
Because the campground is located on the public beach, to use the showers you need shower cards with balance credit.
The rate for showering is € 0.23/minute.
For a shower card we charge € 7.50 deposit and a shower card has an initial credit of € 5.00. Recharging a shower card can be done in the toilet building (using coins) or at the reception.
The credit remaining on the card(s) at the end of your vacation, together with the deposit, will be returned to you.
- How many amps of electricity are available per pitch?
As is familiar, 6 amp electricity is included in the price. It is possible to choose to upgrade to 10 or 16 amp. 10 amp: surcharge €3.15 per day, 16 amp: surcharge €4.75 per day. The pitches on the GP site are comfort pitches, including 16 ampere electricity. Comfort pitches on G with water and drainage also include 16 ampere electricity.
- I have checked out. May I still use the facilities?
You may enjoy yourself all day at our park, as long as your car and camping equipment are parked in the large parking lot in the designated spaces.
- I want to come with a group, is that allowed?
Unfortunately, we have no possibilities for group camping. There is no separate field and among the other campers it unfortunately causes too much disturbance.
Only during events, such as the surf event the Real Trip, are exceptions made to this.
- Is electricity included in the price?
On the G field, 6 amps of electricity is included in the price. On the GP field, the comfort pitches, 16 amperes is included in the price. As are the comfort pitches on G with water and drainage.
- Is there a water point and drainage on the pitch?
On our map the water points are marked with a water drop. We have a camper dump station in front of the gate to the campground; we also have a drain in the sanitary building. Site G27 and G28 have their own water point and drain.
- May I decide how to set up my camping equipment?
You can decide how to place your camping equipment on the pitch.
- May we place an additional tent next to our camping equipment?
Yes, a small 1 or 2 person tent (approx. 1.5 x 2m and maximum 1.5 m2 high) may be placed with your camping equipment. If it is an extra larger tent, an extra pitch should be booked.
- Someone is staying over, is that allowed?
Yes this is allowed. For an extra person you pay extra per night and this must be reported at the reception.
- Until what time is the sanitary building open?
The sanitary building is open 24/7. In the evening, you can use your shower card to open the doors of the sanitary building.
- We are receiving visitors, is this allowed?
When you receive visitors for the day, this is allowed. Your visitor cannot enter the area by car; it must be parked in the parking lot. Are your visitors staying overnight? Then you must report this to the reception desk.
- What can I furnish my pitch with?
An camper, caravan, tent or something similar. A maximum of one camping device is allowed per pitch. However, a small additional tent would be allowed.
- What is the minimum age to camp with us?
We are a family campground and not a youth campground. We do not offer a place for youths staying alone. Parents who want to come camping with their children are of course welcome.
- What time can we check in and out for camping?
Check-in for camping is possible from 13:00 and check-out is before 11:00.
- Why do I have to pay separately for showering?
Our campground is located on the public beach. Because we want to keep our showers exclusively available to our campground guests, shower passes are required.
Long camping
- Are seasonal pitches available for the entire recreation season?
Only limited seasonal places are still offered. Therefore, there is a long waiting list for this. If we can put you on this list, we would like to receive your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.
- Are there any late season spots available?
A late season spot is possible in a specific area of the campground. Inquire about options and prices at the campground reception.
- Are there any pre-season spots available?
No new preseason spots will be offered in future years. If existing renters of preseason spots leave then these spots will be rented by the night only thereafter.
Reserve
- Can I already book for 2025?
Online booking for next year is usually possible from October, when the prices for the next season are known. However, you can pre-book through the reception (by mail, phone or at the desk).
- Can I take an option on a pitch?
Not quite sure about a booking yet? Then it is possible to take an option on a pitch. The option remains a few days (by agreement) Please contact us by phone or email.
- How can I see if there are still camping spots available and what the price is?
You can see the availability on our website. For this you can enter the date when you want to come. The price is also shown here right away, later in the booking process you can add extras. You can also send us an e-mail or call us.
- How can I see which pitches are still free?
If you indicate a preference booking during your online reservation you will see which pitches are available during your stay. You can also send us an email, we will then send you the available camping pitches along with a map.
- I have booked a pitch, but haven't received a confirmation yet. What should I do?
If you have not received a confirmation after 24 hours, please contact us.
Chalets and mobile homes
- Are there free yearly chalet sites available?
Unfortunately, there are no free spaces available for chalets.
- Does the camping site also rent chalets or mobile homes?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to book a chalet through us. The chalets belong to private owners. On our website under the heading overnight you will see the four landlords of the chalets. You will be redirected to their website. Here you will also find their contact information. Chalets are also privately rented, you will find this elsewhere on the Internet.
- I rented a chalet, what do I have to pay?
When you have rented a chalet, you pay rent to the owner of the chalet (possibly through the rental agency). To the campsite you pay on arrival camping fees as compensation for the use of the public areas, facilities, recreational program, waste and water consumption.
This is in the months: March/ April/ September/ October €3.60. In May / June / July / August it is €4.30 These prices you pay per person, per night. Children up to 2 years are free.
- I want to buy a chalet, where do I find the offer?
Chalets are offered for sale or sold privately through Chaletbemiddeling Makkum or Chaletspecial.
- What time can we check in and out for a chalet?
Check-in is possible from 3:00 pm. Check-out is by 10:00 am. However, this may vary by rental company; the correct check-in and check-out times are in the confirmation you receive from them.
Parking, cars and public transport
- Can we come with 2 (or more) cars?
This is certainly possible. Only one car can pass through the gate at a time. The second car can be parked free of cost in the parking lot during your stay.
- Is the camping site accessible by public transportation?
There is a (limited) bus service from Arriva to the campsite. For the timetable, please check 9292.nl.
- Is there a charging station for my electric car?
Unfortunately, we do not have charging stations ourselves because we do not have sufficient capacity. At hotel Vigilante, the local municipal parking lot and at the Beach Resort there are charging stations for your electric car. This is all within walking distance.
- Until what time can I drive on the grounds?
To maintain peace and quiet in the campground, motorized traffic is not allowed between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.. The gates are “closed.” An exception is of course made for emergencies.
Payment and cancellation
- Can I cancel my booking?
Should you wish to cancel your booking we refer to the RECRON conditions. These can be found on our website. Please contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to come. We always recommend a cancellation insurance.
- Did my (purchase) payment arrive?
If you want to know if your payment has arrived, it is best to reach us by phone or log in via my environment. Please note that it takes several business days to process your payment in our system.
- What methods of payment does The Holle Poarte accept?
When you have received a confirmation it will tell you the amount you need to transfer to us. If you book last minute (less than a week before arrival) you can pay at check-in. This can be done in cash or by pin.
- Why can't I pay on arrival?
No one likes standing in line and waiting after a long trip. Therefore, we arrange payment in advance so that you, and others arriving on the same day as you, can check in quickly.
Only in exceptional cases, such as super last-minutes, can payment be made on arrival.
Huisregels
- Can I make a campfire?
Making a campfire or an open fire is not allowed in the campground or near the chalets.
- I would like to have a package delivered, is this possible?
We do not accept packages for guests. Only small packages the size of an envelope. These are then left by last name in our green mailbox, in the reception hall.
- Is barbecuing allowed?
Barbecuing with charcoal is allowed at the campsite or at the chalets.
- Is kitesurfing allowed?
Makkum is an ideal place to learn to kitesurf because the water from the IJsselmeer to far offshore is about knee deep.
Kitesurfing is allowed in Makkum from October 1st to May 1st.
From May 1st to October 1st, you can go to nearby Kornwerderzand.- What are the house rules at the park?
To keep it enjoyable for everyone, we especially ask you to be considerate of each other.

- What happens to the found/lost items?
Lost or found items brought to the reception desk are kept for a maximum of one year. If you have lost something and unfortunately it has not yet been found, we can make a note of your details, should it be found later we will contact you.
Pets
- Are dogs allowed on the beach?
The dog is NOT allowed on the beach from April 15 to October 1. The dog is allowed on the boulevard on a leash then. The dog is allowed from October 1 to April 15 leashed on the beach.
- Are pets allowed at the campground?
Definitely pets are welcome with us. The cost is € 4.20 per night with a maximum of € 52.50 per pet per stay/per year. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
- Are pets allowed in the chalets?
Pets are not allowed in every accommodation, this question is best asked to the owner of the chalet.
- What do you do with dog poop?
No one likes dog poop and many people are annoyed by it. Therefore, you should always clean up your dog's poop. To help you, there are bags and special trash cans spread throughout the grounds and near the nature area.
- Where can my dog run free and swim?
We have a beautiful nature area bordering the campground, behind the marina. It is a nice walking area for the dog. The dog can run, play, and swim here! Here the dog is allowed to walk freely.
Facilities
- At what times can the trailer ramp be used?
During the recreational season from late March to early November, the trailer ramp is only available between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m..
During the winter season only, you can access it as early as 7 a.m. (provided you have signed yourself in the day before). Camping guests do not need to register in advance.
- How many restaurants are on and near the park?
There is a wide choice of restaurants. At the Pyramid on the central square you will find BLOOM happy Food, Beaufort eatery and pizzeria Lungomare. On the boulevard you will find Strandbar Thuishaven, Hoeks Vis and Snacks and the restaurant of the hotel, Strandhuys Makkum.
- I would like to wash during my vacation. Is that possible?
Yes, this is certainly possible. At the reception you can buy a washing coin for €5,75. With detergent for 3 washes it costs €6.75. The dryer can be used with change, 50 cents equals about 10 minutes drying. If you want to change money for this you can do so at the reception.
- Is there Wi-Fi on my pitch/chalet?
Our campsite has wireless internet access. You can buy a Wi-Fi code for this at the reception. This code functions on 1 device simultaneously.

- Is there a trailer ramp at the campground?
There is a small trailer ramp made of sand near the boat dock of the robbing tours.
The ramp is only suitable for small manoeuvrable boats. The trailer ramp is located behind our gate. To gain access, your license plate must be registered. This can be done through the reception desk.
Trailers and cars must always be parked in the parking lot outside the gate after trailering.
- Is there free Wi-Fi in public areas?
There is free Wi-Fi in the chill area (ages 12 to 17). We also have free Wi-Fi for guests at the reception.
- May I use the trailer ramp even if I am not a guest at the campground?
We also make our trailer ramp available to people from outside the campground.
Only on beach days when the beach is crowded and the campsite is full, we cannot have this extra traffic. Availability is always subject to change, we recommend calling in advance and giving us the license plate number. We are available by phone from Monday to Saturday from 09.00 - 17.00.
- Where are fresh bread rolls available?
On the square near the reception and Pyramid is a supermarket. They have, among other things, fresh rolls every day. You can also get other daily groceries here.
- Where can I buy or exchange gas bottles?
You can do this at the supermarket at the park. They have virtually all types and sizes of gas bottles and are open daily.
Animation, outings and activities
- Are there any recreational activities for adults?
Yes there are definitely activities for adults. Our website at the recreation program shows the adult program.
- At what times is there an animation program?
There is a recreational program around holidays such as Easter, Ascension, Pentecost and Fronleichnam and during school vacations. Here we consider the school vacations of the North and Central region and the German vacations of Nordrein Westfalen and Niedersaksen. The entertainment program becomes more extensive as more regions have vacations and it is busier on the campsite. You can read the full program at this link.
- Can I participate in the recreation program?
As a guest of our campsite, you or your children can participate in the recreational program. At the reception you can buy a band for 1 euro. There are two different bands: up to 12 years and from 12 years. With the band the children can prove throughout the season that they are our guests and can participate. The band for 12+ is also necessary in the chill area.
- Do you have to pay extra for the activities?
Almost all activities are free for our guests. Whether it's archery, raft building, pizza making, a graffiti workshop or the children's bingo, it's all free.
Only for the adult bingo you can buy bingo cards at the reception.
- How do I sign up for the recreation program?
Most activities do not require registration. If it is necessary to sign up for a maximum capacity, such as supping or special workshops, it will be clearly mentioned in the recreation program. Signing up is easy via our website.
- What other trips are available in the area?
Friesland offers a wide range of fun day trips, sights, museums and events. Our receptionists will be happy to advise you. On the back of our park map we also have a region map with some highlights of fun outings.
There is also a Tourist office in Makkum, located at the Tamoil gas station, where they will be happy to advise you. The website of the Tourist Office www.waterlandvanfriesland.nl also provides many ideas and tips.
- Where can I book the seal tour?
The seal tour can only be booked through the website: www.rondvaartmakkum.nl or by phone at: 0031-6-10215403. This is an external company and not part of our organization.
- Where can I find information about the recreation/entertainment program?
The current recreation program can be found on our website or at the reception on paper.
- Where can I rent bikes?
You can rent bicycles at the reception. A normal bike costs €10,00 per day. We also have e-bikes, these cost €25.00 per day. Bikes can only be reserved at the reception and must be paid directly.
- Where can we rent a boat?
Boats can be rented from the company Zuidwaard. They rent sloops here both with motor or electric. The sloops are for rent for max 6 persons.
